Gallery Owners

Gallery owners…

The spotlight that you have created

In the space you have curated.

A space that brings together creative artists and valued clients.

A space that celebrates unique pieces of craftsmanship and art.

And I want to help you

Offer something different:

Unique pieces of locally-made furniture.

Pieces with provenance. Furniture with a story. Furniture with soul.

Hello. My name is Stephen Hickman, and I am a studio cabinetmaker.

A small-scale, high-end craftsman.

I trained at Rowden Atelier, known as one of the finest furniture school in the world, under the late artist and master craftsman David Savage.

I take inspiration from the studio potters and studio furniture makers of the 20th century.

I specialise in producing individual pieces of fine furniture.

Furniture uniquely suited to your gallery space.

A story of celebration
Throughout my work I tell my own story:

  • A story that celebrates heirloom craftsmanship.

  • A story that celebrates modern design.

  • A story that celebrates the beauty of local timber.

Genuine Local Provenance
I work at the Sylva Wood Centre in Long Wittenham, where I am able to work with beautiful local hardwoods, grown in the surrounding countryside.

Many timbers are from local forests and arboretums.

Unique furniture with genuine provenance,

Grown and made right here in Oxfordshire.

Unique…so not for everyone
Of course, my furniture is not for most people.

Production is too expensive, too slow and too inefficient for it to ever be a mass-market offering.

But your gallery does not sell work to not most people.

Your clients are unique, and they want a unique piece.

Something that will perfectly complement the sculpture, ceramics and artwork that they own.

Something that no-one else will have.

A piece with provenance.

Furniture with a story

Furniture with soul.

Perhaps you can give them that,

And perhaps I can help.

Try out a piece - risk free
Of course, it is very challenging to really understand a piece of furniture from pictures on a website. If you are interested in my work then you are welcome to try out a piece in your gallery, without upfront charge, and we can discuss selling it on commission. Totally risk free.

Just one more thing…
Please be aware that I am an independent artist and the each piece I make is unique - it can never be exactly recreated. To avoid disappointment, if you see a piece you’d like to display…get in touch!
